I love the idea of worlds within worlds. That within the darkness there is light. A spark of hope , a warmth of love , just often beyond our reach through the darkness.

The battle of the Spiritual Warrior is always within.

'In The Realm Of Love No.2,Into The Abyss' is based on a quote by Nietzsche' Beware that, when fighting monsters, you yourself do not become a monster... for when you gaze long into the abyss. The abyss gazes also into you.'

Through contemplation and self reflection the Spiritual Warrior starts to transcend his own 'monsters'. I know I have had too and it takes a lot of applied discipline. Lots of conversing with oneself whether through ceremony, service prayer or meditation towards Transcendence. Transcendence is The Journey Into Love.

This painting is echoing this process of Transcendence of 'The Journey' Into The Realm Of Love.

Joseph Campbell, ' The Father of Mythology' wrote ‘In the cave you fear to enter lies the treasure you seek," this symbolises our personal self confrontations that we have to undertake, our own personal Hero’s Journey.

I really loved making this painting as I was thinking of these themes and sort of went into a trance and then realised that after a while the painting had emerged from the darkness.
